Toyota BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) Family
Turns out, the loudest EV brand isn’t always the best one.

Toyota showed up late to the BEV party.
No one believed we were even coming.
Our job was to change that, without pretending to be someone we’re not.

What We Were Up Against

People believed in EVs. They didn’t believe in our EVs. Especially not the Asian-American audience.
SOTAS (State-of-the-Art Savvies) are early believers in tech, but late adopters by choice. Practical. Prestige-driven. Hype-averse. They don’t buy to impress.
They buy to outlast. And Toyota’s BEVs hadn’t earned that yet.

We weren’t bold enough. We weren’t cool enough. We weren’t first. So we weren’t even in their consideration set.

We weren’t competing with Tesla. We were competing with their instincts.

What We Sold Instead

So we didn’t sell new. We sold better.

Not the fastest. Not the flashiest. Just the one that would still run when the others glitch.

Where We Landed (Creative Territory)

What Really Matters

The category is loud. Everyone’s yelling about charge times, range, horsepower, screens that wrap around your skull. We didn’t play that game. We made the cars that quietly filters all of that out.

The ones that don’t try to win your attention just earn your trust. Because for this audience, the ones who know the difference between trend and value, flash never had a shot. They were waiting for the thing that would last.

And when they finally find it, after the noise dies down, after every option promising the moon turns out to be a phase, the only cars left on the page is the TBEV family. Not because they screamed. Because they fit.

What I Did

I led the Asian-American audience strategy across this launch, from identifying the SOTAS mindset to shaping how Toyota showed up in their world. I ran qualitative and secondary research to understand why trust, not tech, was the barrier. Then turned that insight into creative territories that felt specific, earned, and actually human. I worked closely with creatives to make sure we weren’t just reacting to the market, but reframing Toyota’s role in it, not as the fastest or flashiest, but the one built to last.

The thinking’s in.
The work’s in motion.
And if we’ve done it right, you won’t just see another EV ad. You’ll feel Toyota, finally sounding like itself.
